12.30pm - 1.30pm (optional outdoor practice survey 2.30pm - 4.30pm)
Coastwise Somerset (a local citizen science group who monitor the Somerset coast and seas) are running this short training session on how to identify and record sea mammals along the Somerset coast (and nationally).
We also explain how we collate the data working closely with the Sea Watch Foundation and the Somerset Environmental Record Centre (Somerset Wildlife Trust). The skills acquired can be used individually or you can join Coastwise Somerset’s regular survey days.
The training is run by Dr Mark Ward (independent marine education consultant -Westward Wildlife) and Vanessa Lloyd (Sea Watch Somerset and Exmoor regional volunteer co-ordinator).
The indoor training session at East Quay, Watchet, runs from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. There will an optional 2 hour survey also being run from Watchet Harbour Wall from 2.30pm - 4.30pm to put into practice what you have learnt.
The session is free, although cash donations (suggested £5) to cover facility hire and trainers’ expenses are gratefully received on the day.
